Bad Breath
Oral health is very important for dogs. You should check teeth and gums regularly. When a pet has halitosis, bad breath, it may indicate a bacterial build-up in the mouth. Continued bad breath can also point to more serious medical conditions including diabetes, infection in the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, liver or kidneys.
If a pet has bad breath and additional symptoms like vomiting, or pawing at the mouth, it is important to alert your veterinarian immediately.
Prevention of Bad Breath
If bad breath is caused by poor oral hygiene, there are some steps you can take to resolve the problem.
- Brush your pet’s teeth. Check your pet’s teeth and gums regularly.
- It your pet has plaque on the teeth, ask your veterinarian about professional cleaning.
- It plaque is not the problem; consult your veterinarian about additional medical tests that might be needed.
